Diving in the world’s largest aquarium

The geographic location of the Gulf of California Islands, Flora and Fauna Protection Area and the Espiritu Santo National Park, favors many species that belong to the Californica and Panamica Biogeographic Provinces and the Indio-Pacific region. It is a region with an elevated diversity of reef fish, comparable to locations in the Bahamas, Hawaii and the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico.

Diving sites around the Isla de Espiritu Santo and nearby places are known worldwide due to the presence of marine species such as hammerhead sharks, giant manta rays, sea lions, and sea turtles, as well as a variety of invertebrates and reef fish.

The variety of marine mammals in the bay is one of the richest in the world. It is very common to find sea lions, several species of dolphins and more than 20 species of cetaceans, among them the largest whales in the world, including the blue whale and fin whale.

Our host will be the Isla de Espiritu Santo. The island is a natural reserve protected by UNESCO, with turquoise bays, red rock formations, a sea lion colony, different types of birds and, of course, an abundance of sea life. Espiritu Santo is considered the most beautiful island in the Sea of Cortez.

Jacques Cousteau declared the Sea of Cortez the richest aquarium in the world. You will be able to confirm this declaration while diving and spending time with the sea life.

We will also stop at one of two beautiful islands El Candelero or Ensenada Grande for a delicious lunch on board.

Some of our favorite diving places are El Bajo, Swanee Reef, Salvatierra (with a sunken ship), Fang Ming (first artificial reef in Latin America), Cañonero C- 54 and Lapas 03 (also sunken ships) and La Reyna (The Queen).

The Sea of Cortez is a young sea. Approximately five million years old and home to more than 900 different types of fish with a wide variety of whales and dolphins.
