Los Cabos, a success story in the world of tourism

Los Cabos presented to members of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) the recent edition of the World Meetings Forum (WMF) as a successful case of hybrid meeting tourism in the current context.

The success of the eighth edition of the WMF in Los Cabos is due, to a great extent, to the implementation of the International Crystal Standards, as part of the tourist reactivation protocols in the destination. At the moment none of the 227 attendees (event organizers, industry suppliers and special guests) have shown any symptoms of Covid-19.

“For Los Cabos, business tourism represents 20% of hotel room occupancy, so the reactivation of events is key in the reopening of the destination. The World Meetings Forum Los Cabos 2020 demonstrated that the reactivation is taking place in a safe and responsible manner, ”said Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust.

The organizers of the event that took place from August 31 to September 2 in Paradisus Los Cabos, designed a biosafety protocol that consisted of 229 medical screenings before the event, 227 quick tests to the attendees and a second medical screening in site. In addition to monitoring each of the participants 7 and 14 days after the meeting.

International Crystal Standards

In recent months, the Los Cabos Tourism Board sealed an alliance with Intertek Cristal to implement the “International Crystal Standards”, making it the first destination in Mexico to adopt these recognized health and hygiene measures.

Intertek Cristal is the leading company in the global market that manages health, quality and safety risks, focused on the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors. POSI-Check was created to support organizations as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to demonstrate that they are effectively managing the prevention of the spread of infections.

The new Spread of Infection Prevention (POSI) audit solution is designed to formulate and monitor an effective response to communicable infections in hotels and restaurants around the world.

The Intertek Protek program includes hands-on training sessions, bi-monthly audits and tests to detect adenosine triphosphate (ATP) of high-contact surfaces in common public areas.

Los Cabos has promoted obtaining certifications for each of the tourism service providers. Among them, the Safe Travels Stamp of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) stands out, and works so that companies obtain the Clean Point Stamp from the National Ministry of Tourism.

The destination now presents to this council a successful model for reviving the tourism and meetings industry. Proving once again that the synergy of all sectors of the Los Cabos community is the key to moving forward.
