The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) announces the opening of a new air route operated by Volaris connecting Ontario, California, with Los Cabos. The inaugural flight took place on July 4th, formally launching operations. This new connection will enhance the international connectivity of the destination, facilitating access from the West Coast of the United States and expanding travel options for tourists and visitors.
This new flight will operate five days a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Departure from Ontario is scheduled for 12:40 hours, with arrival in Los Cabos at 15:04 hours. The return flight will depart Los Cabos at 15:54 hours, landing in Ontario at 18:19 hours. The addition of this route represents a strategic step to expand travel options and consolidate Los Cabos as a premier international destination, offering travellers a greater choice.
Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of FITURCA, emphasized the significance of this new route, underscoring that connectivity is a crucial pillar for the growth of tourism in Los Cabos. “The alliance with Volaris and the opening of new routes from California represent an invaluable opportunity to continue positioning Los Cabos as a world-class destination, accessible and connected to key markets. Volaris remains a key strategic partner for Los Cabos, being the airline with the largest domestic market share to this destination,” he said.
Between January and May 2025, Volaris accounted for 45.4% of all domestic passengers arriving at Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). In addition, the airline leads the total market share with 16%, positioning itself as the primary driver of domestic air connectivity to the destination. So far this year, domestic traffic to Los Cabos has grown by 7.5%, primarily driven by the connectivity Volaris offers from key hubs such as Guadalajara, Mexico City and Tijuana.
Volaris’ contribution has been instrumental in bringing more than 585,000 domestic passengers to Los Cabos in the first five months of 2025. Since 2020, the airline has experienced sustained growth in its destinations, with a 165% increase in available seats between 2020 and 2023. This growth has been exponential: in 2021, passenger numbers almost doubled, with an 83% increase, and the trend continued to rise in subsequent years. In 2023, Volaris carried over 1.5 million passengers to and from Los Cabos, solidifying its position as one of the leading airlines in the destination.
Volaris’s ongoing commitment to Los Cabos has been key to democratising access to the destination, connecting it to new markets and promoting domestic tourism. With the recent announcement of two new routes from Oakland and Ontario, California, Volaris strengthens its international presence and connects Los Cabos with key cities in the United States that previously had no direct flights. This opens up new opportunities to attract tourism from the West Coast, a strategic market with high purchasing power.
“We are very pleased to announce the start of operations on this new route connecting two truly exceptional destinations, both with world-class tourist attractions and wonderful weather. With this, Volaris reaffirms its commitment to bringing its customers closer to their families and friends on both sides of the border, allowing them to enjoy the potential and beauty that these destinations offer,” said Carlos Alejandro Molina Macias, Volaris Market Development Manager.
The addition of the Ontario-Los Cabos route by Volaris reaffirms the commitment of FITURCA and the airline to boost air connectivity and tourism development in Los Cabos. This new connection will not only facilitate access for international tourists but will also strengthen the local economy and the destination’s position in the global market.
