The history of Los Cabos stands as a testament to the ongoing collaboration of its people. The historic district of San José del Cabo has become the destination’s main differentiator, the result of collective efforts by residents, entrepreneurs, and artists dedicated to preserving its historic homes. Several years ago, the creation of an association focused on urban, commercial, and aesthetic development significantly transformed the area’s image and strengthened its appeal as a tourist destination.
This collaboration fostered an environment conducive to preserving local identity and opened new opportunities for economic and cultural development, establishing the historic center as a dynamic and vibrant space.

In contrast, the dazzling bay of Cabo San Lucas—crowned by the iconic Arch— has, since its beginnings, been a meeting point for navigators and explorers. Vessels such as the Calypso, captained by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, were drawn to its privileged location at the Land’s End and to the natural richness of a bay later recognized as a Natural Protected Area. Over time, its tourism vocation took shape around sportfishing and entertainment.

Beginning in the 1970s, urban development driven by FONATUR and the introduction of the Los Cabos concept—which united both towns—fueled sustained growth. Innovation and creativity have been key to this evolution, allowing modernization without compromising the destination’s essence. The involvement of new generations in this collective effort brought fresh ideas and enabled local traditions and customs to adapt to contemporary contexts, generating renewed tourism dynamism.
Today, San José del Cabo is distinguished by its artistic and cultural offerings, while Cabo San Lucas stands out for its fishing tournaments and entertainment. Together, supported by renowned hospitality and gastronomy, both enrich the experience of residents and visitors alike. As a result, in 2025, Los Cabos received international recognition in categories such as luxury tourism, weddings, wellness, and gastronomy, solidifying its position as a destination where past and present converge.
