The Mexican Meetings Tourism Council (COMIR) will hold its planning meeting in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, from 8 to 10 January 2025. This meeting, which will be led by a specialized facilitator, aims to establish strategies to guide the sector’s actions over the next year.
COMIR represents various stakeholders of the Meetings Industry before the Mexican Government authorities, seeking to promote benefits and manage public policies that favour the sector. This meeting brings together association presidents and managers of event-organizing companies nationally and internationally.
A highlight of this meeting is the integration of the Los Cabos Meetings Tourism Cluster (CTRLC), established in October 2019. This cluster’s mission is to become a leading organization in the industry, collaborating with the academic, business and official sectors to foster the growth and competitiveness of the destination.
This cluster is the second at the national level to join COMIR, underlining the growing importance of meeting tourism in Mexico. “Integrating the Los Cabos Meeting Tourism Cluster is crucial to strengthening our position in the global industry. Together, we can create an ecosystem that promotes successful events and drives our region’s economic and social development,” said Rodrigo Esponda, CEO of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust.
“The average event participant spends more than a holiday visitor. This amplifies the economic benefit and boosts the use of direct and indirect services in the community, generating a significant positive impact on both the locality and attracting new visitors to the destination,” added Rodrigo Esponda.
As part of CTRLC’s strategic priorities, the following points stand out:
- Unification of the sector: Become a driving force that connects all key players in the value chain, fostering collaborative efforts to enhance and elevate the development of the destination.
- Brand protection: Enhance the image of Los Cabos as a distinctive destination through targeted marketing strategies.
- Improving the participant experience: Collaborate with various organizations to implement programs that enhance essential event services.
“The formalization of the cluster and its integration into COMIR represents a key step in strengthening the collaboration and strategic development of the Meetings Industry in Mexico. For destinations such as Los Cabos, this integration amplifies its visibility, strengthens its competitiveness and connects directly with key industry players, ensuring clear and tangible benefits for its positioning as a leading destination in the MICE segment. At the same time, including Los Cabos in COMIR enriches our national representation, strengthens our joint strategies and ensures a win-win model that boosts the entire industry,” said Michel Wohlmuth, President of COMIR.
During the sessions, COMIR will dialogue with key destination representatives to share recommendations and suggestions for boosting events in Los Cabos. This collaborative approach is essential to strengthening tourism development and ensuring that Los Cabos remains a competitive and reliable destination in the global marketplace.
