The Interview

Healthy eating is an important part of wellness. A point of interest is that about 90 percent of the hormone serotonin, also called the love hormone or happiness hormone, is found in the intestines and not in the brain. There are several studies showing how emotional problems can be treated with a change of diet. To achieve a life of wellness, food should be a priority.

To be healthy, you must have a balance in the spiritual part of your life as well as in your personal projects. Balance will bring emotional wellbeing. Of course, to enjoy it, you should keep physically active through exercise.

The increasing number of people diagnosed with diabetes is alarming. Diabetes and nutrition are closely related. In fact, nutrition is the basic treatment for controlling the disease. Although there is no cure for diabetes, it can be 100 percent controlled.

“Personally, I have a family history of diabetes. The disease is linked to several myths. This is why I decided to make the study of diabetes my specialty. There are many unknowns about this disease and, as a nutritionist, I want to give my patients a guide to achieve a better lifestyle.

Foods have different properties. For example, Omega-3 is a natural antidepressant and can be found in flaxseed, chia, avocados, nuts, oils and fish. The danger of online diets is that they are not personalized. Before starting a diet to lose or control weight, the patient’s medical history should be reviewed and a clinical analysis performed to evaluate what foods can or can’t be consumed.

“The so called mono diets based on a single juice or the consumption of prescribed supplements and proteins do not work the same way for everyone. Moreover they can lead to an imbalance in the body.”

“Through negligence or age, the body sometimes fails to absorb nutrients from certain foods. It is also important to consult a licensed nutritionist to find out if it is necessary to consume extra vitamins.”

When looking to purchase healthier foods, it is always advisable to check the labels. As for the growing demand for organic products, we must be clear that they take longer to harvest. The natural process is not altered and pesticides or chemicals that alter size are not used. As a result, organic products are usually more expensive. If you choose to buy organic products, the recommendation is always make sure they are USDA certified.

“My vision is to constantly get better. My only competition is myself and no matter what happens, I keep going. Discipline for me is to do something whether I feel like it or not. Nutrition is my passion because it gives me the opportunity to help other people.”

Recommendations for good nutritional health:

  • A regular checkup at least once a year is essential for measuring the health of the body.
  • A good diet prevents diseases.
  • Respect meal times. Take at least one hour.
  • Eat every three hours to maintain good digestion.
