A spring equinox to remember

The equinox concept comes from the Greek words euqus: equal and nox: night. This term refers to the astrologic event where day and night last exactly the same time.

This phenomenon in cultures has been of great importance and, in turn, has originated different myths, such as rituals to charge energy.

Did you know…?

  • In the northern hemisphere, the equinox marks the transition from winter to spring.
  • In the southern hemisphere, marks the passage from summer to autumn.
  • In Ecuador, the sun passes through the zenith at exactly 12 noon.
  • At the North Pole, the sun goes from a 6-month long night to a 6-month long day.
  • At the south pole, the sun goes from a 6-month-long day to a 6-month-long night.
  • Spring can also refer to the ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and new growth. In literature, spring represents the youth age or phase of a person’s life in which he is said to be in the “prime of life”.

This year the COVID-19 measures will avoid contemplating these phenomena in popular places such as Chichen Itzá in Yucatan or Teotihuacán in Mexico City. The closing order also affects 38 UNESCO world heritage sites, such as the Qutub Minar Delhí, the world’s largest brick tower.

The 2020 spring equinox in Mexico will be at 9:49 p.m. Today, Thursday, March 19 and is an opportunity to live the moment as a family from home and remember the importance of cycles.
