Three new air routes to Los Cabos!

With the color stage change on the covid alert and all the health protocols operating in Los Cabos, the destination continues to add positive news this week!

On September 1, American Airlines the airline with the most flights to the destination announced that Austin, New York, and Sacramento will join the destination’s connectivity with American Airlines and will be in operation by the end of 2020. With this, for First time Austin will have a direct flight to Los Cabos! So the airline adds eight international routes to the peninsula.

In a direct call with Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, General Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, he commented to Tendencia that the integration of three new routes is part of the destination’s sustainable growth marks.

“The work on the New York route began three years ago, this 2020 in the midst of the global crisis due to the pandemic, we have managed to open it. Today the planes are on the ground, so the configuration of the routes is established according to supply and demand. Given the demand to Los Cabos compared to other national destinations, American Airlines have mobilized their aircfrats toward this place. This means that we are at the right time to recover the market with new routes”.

Other growth indicators are the 27% recovery of international travelers in July, compared to the previous year. As well as an average rate of 319usd per night, the highest in contrast to similar destinations such as Vallarta and the Caribbean, according to STR data.

In addition to maintaining nightly rates, there has been a change in the demographic profile of visitors to the destination, with a notable increase in young people with independent activities, as well as a notable increase in luxury tourists to the destination.

“The influx of travelers from the first opening phase until now shows an occupancy of 33% in hotel rooms and the number of reservations for October shows a 50% recovery in the international market. In this new stage it is allowed to increase up to 40% of capacity. Although we continue to pay attention to the indications of the State Health Council, the decrease in hospital occupancy has allowed the traffic light to move. With this, Los Cabos looks optimistic to receive the high season, hoping to increase the capacity allowed per hotel to 50% ”. Rodrigo commented.

The new routes to Los Cabos are the result of close collaboration between the public and private sectors due to the integral work that has been carried out to implement health protocols. Both the hotel and restaurant industry and levels of government have taken sanitary measures very seriously. Employees are very aware they need to protect themselves and thus, protect visitors. In a society where we all take care of ourselves, we all benefit too!

It should be noted that Los Cabos was the first destination in Latin America to receive the Safe Travel seal, likewise the Los Cabos International Airport was the second in the world accredited in the AHA program.

Visitor perception in exit surveys has been positive. According to the most recent survey, 99% of travelers said they felt safe in Los Cabos, and recommended traveling to the destination. In addition, they look for direct flights, which favors consolidating more routes to the destination.

“This year the airline will also make an increase in frequencies from Dallas and Charlotte. The next objective for Los Cabos is to recover the 23 direct air routes and take advantage of the trend of activities abroad to consolidate the products that this peninsula offers: sport fishing, water activities, and world-class golf ”. Rodrigo pointed out.

Finally, in terms of promotional strategies, the director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board commented that the response to the national campaign Yes to Los Cabos, and international Los Cabos Rules has been very positive. Perhaps one of the most successful in the last four years, for impressions, follow-ups, and interaction achieved.
