Los Cabos Children’s Foundation increases investment in children’s health in the state by 12%.

The Los Cabos Children’s Foundation (LCCF) announced last Thursday, August 15, 2024, at a press conference at the Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa hotel, that it will invest over 32 million pesos in funding 40 programs aimed at improving the quality of life for nearly 17,000 children and adolescents. This amount reflects a 12 percent increase from the previous year.

“Forty-two percent of children in Los Cabos live in poverty, often leading to a lack of access to healthcare. Health is a fundamental right that allows them to enjoy their other rights. Our commitment to upholding these rights is demonstrated through the investment in these 40 programs,” said Marisa Comella, Executive Director of Los Cabos Children’s Foundation. She added that this investment represents an opportunity to positively impact the lives of thousands, particularly in healthcare, where the need is most acute. The Los Cabos Children’s Foundation is at the forefront of this crucial work, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to live a healthy life.

Throughout 22 years, Los Cabos Children’s Foundation has supported 83 programs, benefiting 97,000 children and adolescents with an investment of 300 million pesos. This year, 64 million pesos were raised, which, following the principles of transparency, accountability and continuous improvement, Los Cabos Children’s Foundation claims to have received more significant support from the community, allowing us to increase the investment in the 2024-2025 cycle. This year, 40 programs will be supported, reaching 16,800 children and adolescents with an investment 12% higher than the previous year.

During the year ending June 2024, the investment was $27.5 million pesos and reached 11,762 children and adolescents. 91% live in Los Cabos and La Paz municipalities, 79% are under ten years of age, and 51% are female. In addition, the number of cases referred from Loreto and Mulegé increased following awareness-raising visits to the north of the state in April.

California Sur. Marisa Comella didn’t just talk about the importance of strategic allies; she painted a vivid picture of their crucial role in LCCF’s mission. These allies, including the Federal Government through IMSS-Bienestar and its medical facilities in Baja California Sur, the Government of the State of Baja California Sur through the Ministry of Health and the State DIF System, and the municipal governments, especially the City of Los Cabos, are the backbone of our work. She also stressed the significance of collaborating with organizations such as Red por los Derechos de la Infancia en México (REDIM), the Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía (CEMEFI), and other national and international civil society organizations. This collaboration is not just important. It’s essential to maximize the impact of LCCF’s efforts to benefit the families of Baja California Sur.

Natalia Londoño, Development Manager, emphasized that the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation cannot achieve its mission without the support of socially responsible individuals and companies. She stressed the urgency of investing in the health of the State’s children, as it is essential for families in our community to thrive. She invited everyone present to learn more about the organization’s actions through its social networks and how they can get involved by visiting www.loscaboschildren.org. In conclusion, the community was invited to contribute to improving the health and well-being of children and adolescents in the State. Let’s act as a team to leave a lasting impact that transcends sectors and time to change the world, one child at a time.
