From November 19–22, Playa Cerritos will welcome more than 120 surfers from Mexico and around the world for an event featuring professional competition, cultural experiences, and free activities for the public.
In Cerritos, the rhythm of the waves is part of everyday life. This November, it will also bring athletes, visitors, and residents together for the third edition of the Pacífico Surf Open Cerritos, an opportunity to enjoy professional surfing and discover the culture that has grown around this Baja California Sur beach.
According to the organizers’ announcement, the championship will take place November 19–22, 2026, bringing together more than 120 competitors from a dozen countries. The event is part of the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series as a QS 2,000 competition, where athletes earn points as they work toward the highest levels of professional surfing.
Among the announced participants are Mexican surfers Jhony Corzo, an International Surfing Association world champion; Sebastián Williams, a standout in the North American rankings; and Lucas Cassity, a Cerritos native who reached the semifinals in the tournament’s inaugural edition.
The event will also feature a national women’s division, providing a competitive platform and greater visibility for Mexican women surfers.
An Experience Beyond the Waves
Throughout the four-day championship, visitors can enjoy surf short film screenings, a market featuring local producers and artisans, live music, and a closing concert. All activities will be free.
The program also includes beach cleanups and environmental education initiatives in collaboration with Cero Basura BCS. According to the announcement, the festival will operate under a policy prohibiting single-use plastics and will provide waste-sorting stations.
The invitation extends to both surfing fans and those looking to discover Cerritos through its cultural offerings, local products, and commitment to caring for its surroundings.
Sports Tourism with a Local Identity
Since its first edition in 2024, the Pacífico Surf Open Cerritos has sought to connect international competition with its host community. The event offers an opportunity to draw visitors to Cerritos, El Pescadero, and Todos Santos, supporting businesses throughout the area.
During the presentation at Santa Terra in Todos Santos, representatives from the tourism industry and the surfing community emphasized the importance of supporting this growth while respecting the destination’s natural environment and local identity.
For the next generation of Baja California Sur surfers, the championship also offers a chance to watch international athletes up close and find inspiration in Mexican talent.
With the Pacific as its backdrop, Cerritos is preparing for four days of sports, culture, and beach life.
