Brief History of the mining towns of Baja California Sur

The authors, Gilberto Piñeda Bañuelos, Alejandro Telechea Cienfuegos, Luis Larreta Mendía, Homero Avilés, Marisol Ochoa García, Julia Félix Cervantes, Bianca Gpe. Rodríguez Quiñones and Laura Silva Castañón, are members of the History Graduate Network of the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur and the State Superior Normal School.

As usually happened in this country, the migratory flow increased when the mining activity began. This is what occurred at the end of the 19th century. Conversely, the towns stagnated or drastically lost population when the mining cycle ended and wasn’t replaced by other commerce.

This book takes the reader on a tour, accompanied by images and maps, through the history of the mining towns of Baja California Sur: San Antonio, El Triunfo, San Marcos Island, Santa Rosalia, Guerrero Negro and San Juan de la Costa.
