Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. The Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo is celebrating its 10th anniversary, firmly established as one of Mexico’s premier sporting events and one of the highest-rated ATP 250 tournaments on the international tennis circuit.
During the official press conference, Tournament Director José Antonio Fernández “Geoffrey”, joined by representatives from Mifel, the Baja California Sur Ministry of Tourism, and the Los Cabos Municipal Tourism Department, unveiled the highlights of this milestone edition, which celebrates a decade of growth alongside one of Mexico’s most dynamic destinations.
Since its inaugural tournament in 2016, the event has grown from welcoming just over 12,000 spectators to attracting more than 35,000 attendees, while becoming an international showcase for Los Cabos and a driving force behind the region’s sports tourism industry.
A World-Class Player Field
This anniversary edition will feature some of the biggest names in international tennis, including Jiří Lehečka, Luciano Darderi, Francisco Cerúndolo, Karen Khachanov, Cameron Norrie—the 2021 Los Cabos champion—and defending champion Denis Shapovalov.
One of the most celebrated announcements was the return of Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov, who received a wild card entry and returns to Los Cabos as one of the ATP Tour’s most recognizable players.
The tournament also reaffirmed its commitment to Mexican tennis by awarding a wild card to the country’s top-ranked player, Rodrigo Pacheco, who will compete in both singles and doubles. For the first time, he will partner with Santiago González, currently Mexico’s leading doubles player.
More Than Just Tennis
True to the philosophy that has defined the tournament over the past decade, the Mifel Tennis Open will once again deliver a complete lifestyle experience for fans and visitors.
Among this year’s highlights are an enhanced culinary program led by acclaimed chef Enrique Olvera, the official Draw Ceremony taking place in the venue’s commercial plaza, live music performances, family-friendly activities, player appearances, interactive experiences, and a full entertainment lineup throughout tournament week.
To commemorate its 10th anniversary, qualifying matches will once again be free to the public, providing more people with the opportunity to experience professional tennis while inspiring future generations of players and fans.
Supporting the Future of Mexican Tennis
One of the most significant announcements was the expansion of the national player development program through a collaboration between CONADE, the Mexican Tennis Federation, and MexTenis.
For the first time, the country’s top under-18 male and female players will compete in a special tournament held alongside the ATP event, giving Mexico’s rising tennis stars a valuable platform to showcase their talent.
Additionally, Mexican players Alex Hernández and Alan Magadán received qualifying wild cards, further reinforcing the tournament’s long-term commitment to developing the sport nationwide.
An Impact Beyond the Court
Organizers also highlighted the tournament’s significant economic and tourism impact on Baja California Sur.
In addition to attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors, the event generates more than 2,300 direct and indirect jobs, boosts hotel occupancy, supports local businesses, and showcases Los Cabos to audiences across five continents through international television coverage.
Organizers expressed confidence that this year’s tournament will surpass the attendance figures achieved in 2025 while continuing to increase the economic impact the event generates for the destination year after year.
