Waiting for Mar de Ofrendas Gastronómico – Tequila and Mezcal

The press conference of the Mar de Ofrendas Gastronomico—Tequila y Mezcal was held on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at Cattac (Centro De Atencion Al Turista). This event will be held in Cabo San Lucas on November 2nd, 2024, to commemorate the region’s culture and traditions through gastronomy, tequila, and mezcal.

From 21 October 2024, the streets and surrounding businesses will be decorated with colourful decorations and beautiful altars. The official inauguration will be on 2 November at the Plaza Amelia Wilkes at 7:00 pm, with the ribbon being cut. This will be followed by a tasting of traditional dishes, mezcal, and tequila from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

At the briefing, the event organizers, the State and Municipal Government, the Fideicomiso de Turismo (Fiturca), and sponsors fine-tuned details about the activities and what they want to achieve with the Festival promoted by the Asociación de Empresarios de Los Cabos (Los Cabos Businessmen’s Association).

The Festival Director, Nora Alvarado, prioritized the idea that from 21 October to 4 November 2024, all the façades of the tourist centre will be decorated for the Day of the Dead, and on 2 November, a leading event will be held to generate a sense of belonging in the community and a deep-rooted sense of Mexican traditions.

The festival will include the Altars at Sea event, a proposal that Festivales Náuticos MX brought to Los Cabos in 2018 with the first parade of decorated boats called Mar & Christmas. For some years now, it has also been held as part of the Day of the Dead.

The intention is that this festival will have a pedestrian area where visitors can tour the golden zone of Cabo San Lucas; however, the authorization of street closures is still under evaluation.

“We are grateful for the participation of authorities, media and organizing committee members who joined us on 10 October at CATTAC. We are getting closer and closer to making an event that will highlight the culture and gastronomy of our region a reality. Let’s keep working together to make Mar de Ofrendas a success,” said the organizers, who managed different committees under the direction of Nora Alvarado:

  • Facades/arrangements with cempasuchitl flowers
  • Cultural
  • Art Garden
  • UGC Gulf of California
  • Tequila and mezcal exhibitors

This will be the first edition of the Sea of Offerings Festival, and we look forward to many more!
