Last Thursday, January 16th, 2025, San Jose del Cabo’s Centro Historico witnessed an event that marked a before and after in the region’s hotel scene: the reopening of the iconic Tropicana Inn, now Tropicana Los Cabos, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
On a night that combined art, gastronomy and a fantastic atmosphere, this boutique hotel reopened its doors to offer a renewed and contemporary experience without losing its historical essence.
The official opening was a spectacular display amidst illuminated fountains, a sparkling swimming pool, and an art exhibition that brought together two great figures of art: Alejandro Velasco and Leonora Carrington. Attendees enjoyed a carefully curated selection of food and beverages, while the musical group Alebrije Flamenco filled the atmosphere with their energetic and captivating music. The connection between the guests and the energy of the venue was palpable.
Manuel Sillas, the Hotel Manager, welcomed the attendees with an emotional speech. He emphasized the collective effort that made the renovation of this iconic property possible and expressed his gratitude to the authorities, business leaders, media representatives, and business partners for their presence. Among the distinguished guests were Miguel Sánchez Navarro Madero, President of Fortem Capital; Mtra. Rosa Maribel Collins Sánchez, Secretary of Tourism, Economy, and Sustainability, and representatives from Hilton, Hamak Hotels, and the local government.
Tropicana Los Cabos, operated by Hamak Hotels, features 70 newly renovated rooms, including two suites. New amenities include a heated pool, Jacuzzi, games room, wellness centre with a full menu of services, and indoor and outdoor event spaces spanning more than 8,000 square feet. With architecture that combines traditional hacienda style with contemporary Mexican design, the hotel offers a unique and sophisticated setting in the heart of Mijares Boulevard.
Nicolás Domínguez, Creative Director of Hamak Hotels, expressed his enthusiasm for the reopening: “Tropicana Inn has an iconic history as a welcoming meeting place for locals and travellers alike. Today, as Tropicana Los Cabos, it continues to be a model of authentic hospitality with exceptional cuisine, culturally immersive activities, and the opportunity to experience all that Centro Historico has to offer.”
Dining is a mainstay at Tropicana Los Cabos. Tropicana’s restaurant, Cocina de las Californias, celebrates the culinary heritage of the Californias with a farm-to-table philosophy, while El Patio features a menu inspired by Baja California’s Mediterranean. The intimate Misiones bar combines craft cocktails with traditional missionary-inspired recipes on the first floor. In addition, the poolside bar rescues cocktail classics with a modern twist.
At Veleros Beach Club, guests can enjoy one of the few swimmable beaches in Los Cabos. Hammocks and cabanas are available for reservation.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which officially celebrated the revitalization of a significant cultural and historical site in Los Cabos, the evening continued. Tropicana Los Cabos, a part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, stands as a testament to a vision of excellence and commitment.
