“The feeling is positive. It wasn’t my best start to the match, but I was able to pick myself up and control things. My best tennis came in the second set when I started to get into a rhythm.”said Stefano Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis player and favourite of the Mexican public, after advancing to the semifinals of the Los Cabos Open. After defeating the American, Alexandar Kovacevic, in straight sets by 7-6 and 6-3, and to the excitement of the local fans, Tsitsipas advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Casper Ruud, the Norwegian tennis player who defeated Nuno Borges 6-3, 6-2 in what appears to be the final of Los Cabos Open.
The Norwegian and the Greek have met twice on the ATP circuit, with one victory each.
“The conditions here are conditions we both like. I would like to say he is a competitor who can push me to the limit, so I need to be well prepared and take this like any other match with the right mindset.”said the Greek tennis player after qualifying for this round, from which he expects to advance as he is the current tournament champion.
The other semifinal will be between the German Alexander Zverev and the Australian Jordan Thompson, in which the German tennis player looks like the favourite to advance to the Grand Final to be played tomorrow, Saturday, February 24, 2024.
