Happy Holidays in La Paz

Winter is one of the most enjoyable seasons in La Paz thanks to the endless number of activities and experiences available on and in the water.

Here are the five must-do winter activities in La Paz:

  1. Gray Whale Sightings

The official season starts the end of December and continues through the month of March. The warmth of the Pacific Ocean is the perfect setting for the birthing of calves.

The main sighting points near the southern Californian capital are in Magdalena Bay, (approximately three hours north of La Paz), the Ojo de Liebre Lagunar Complex Biosphere Reserve and the San Ignacio lagoon in the El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve.

Enjoying this beautiful natural spectacle is a memorable experience!

  1. Swim with Whale Sharks

The whale shark is the largest fish in the world. Visitors are universally impressed with its size. However, the Whale Shark is so gentle that it allows humans to swim alongside as it calmly navigates the waters in search of plankton, its main source of food.

To guarantee the protection of Whale Sharks, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources announced an agreement in 2018 that established the Bay of La Paz as a Whale Shark Refuge Area.

  1. Espiritu Santo Island

Isla Espíritu Santo is a Protected Natural Area (ANP) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to the largest reproductive colony of sea lions in the Sea of Cortez.

In addition to the beauty and tranquility of the island, the presence of the friendly sea lions makes snorkeling a unique experience. From September through May, visitors can swim and snorkel with these friendly creatures.

  1. Kite and Windsurfing

During the winter, kite and windsurfing are the sports most sought after by adrenaline lovers. The favorable wind currents in La Ventana, as well as El Sargento, make these two communities the place for international tournaments and the meeting point for athletes around the world. The magnificent settings feature the bay of Isla Cerralvo and the Sea of Cortez as backgrounds.

  1. Glamping

Camping under the stars with personalized services and amenities is one of the finest experiences you can have in Baja California Sur. The ChiloChill camp in La Ventana offers guests incredible views of the sea and water activities.

La Paz has Punto Limpio certifications granted by the Ministry of Tourism as well as the Global Safety Stamp for Safe Travels granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council. Your visit is guaranteed to be in a clean, safe environment that adheres to quality hygiene protocols.
