Liga MAC: Changing Lives Through Education

One of Nelson Mandela’s most popular quotes says that education is the most powerful weapon for changing the world. In Los Cabos, we believe it.

On this occasion, we contacted Liga MAC to learn more about the work of Liga MAC.

Liga MAC was one of the first non-profit organization in Los Cabos. It was founded in 1997. Its current focus is to support and motivate young people in the field of education. In the words of the executive director, Elva Haro, “The key is the education of the people. When you have broader education, everything around you will change.”

During our visit, we spoke with Jose Luis Lopez Cancino, who has been beneficiary since he began his university career, and Sebastian Angulo Cempoal, who recently joined the list of beneficiary students for the 2021-2022 school year.

About Jose Luis

He studies a Business Administration Engineering major at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores Los Cabos, Jose recognized his entrepreneurial spirit as a child and his strong inclination for human resources.

“I have been working in customer service since I was 12 years old. I like to give more to the services I am entrusted with. I have an idea of developing a long-term project.”

Jose is inspired by the will to improve, to demonstrate a positive attitude and to start each day in an optimistic manner with happy music and, most importantly, the desire to learn.

“My advice to young people is to surround themselves with people who will help them grow and bring them knowledge.”

Jose Luis shared that he appreciates the opportunity to surround himself with people with entrepreneurial vision and that he hopes to have his own company in the future. He also thanked Liga MAC for the support and trust during his university studies.

About Sebastian

Despite his tender age, Sebastian is a little boy with big dreams, and he shared them with a frank smile. He learned about Liga MAC from his brother, who was also a beneficiary.

The clubs, projects and activities Liga MAC contributes to the development of students is what piqued his interest. His family and friends are his greatest motivation. Sebastian hopes to support them in the future.

“I am inspired by the idea of being a better person when I grow up. My plan is to help my parents and give them a better quality of life.”

Sebastian is a lover of science and technology. No wonder he wants to study Systems Engineering in the future.

In Liga MAC

Elva Haro shares that one of the most important requirements for selecting students is their families, that’s because it is a commitment where both parents and children must be involved. Despite any limitations, families need to recognize the value of education and want to grow together.

“Jose Luis and Sebastian accurately represent the spirit of Liga MAC. Both are students who belong to vulnerable families in terms of income in San José del Cabo. However, they are passionate about learning, they want to educate themselves to get ahead and have a better quality of life.”

In addition to donating, becoming an ambassador is a great way to provide support. You can join as a volunteer, sharing your knowledge with the students and even spreading their content on social networks.

It does not matter the size of your contribution. What counts is the desire to join in the task of helping others.

Mission

Liga MAC’s mission is to offer consistent financial, social and health related support to the students selected for our Educational Support Program and their families, as they transition through middle and high schools and onto college or a trade to become educated, contributing and responsible members in their communities.

Vision

Our vision is inspiring and supporting a consistent learning environment to the students in our Educational Support Program with the goal of helping them achieve scholastic and personal growth to maximize their potential.
