The high season started yesterday in Los Cabos with the first Sportfishing Tournament of October, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament 2024, in the port of Cabo San Lucas. With 36 boats participating, the starting shot was fired for this exciting event, which will take place over the next three days. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 12th, 2024.
The Municipal Director of Tourism, Ana Gabriela Navarro González, was present during the opening shot, supporting this vital tradition that positions Los Cabos as a critical destination for sport fishing lovers.
The tournament, in which more than 200 anglers are participating, kicked off on Tuesday, 8th, with registration. There will be three days of fishing from Wednesday, 9th, to 11th October from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will compete for a prize purse in excess of 767,000 dollars by catching the largest fish: dorado, wahoo, tuna, blue marlin, and black marlin; the latter two must weigh a minimum of 300 pounds.
The scale, located in front of the IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas offices next to the Casa Country restaurant, will be open from 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm.
The 26th edition of the Billfish Sports Fishing Tournament champions will be awarded this Saturday, the 12th, marking the beginning of the high season for visitors who come to this destination to participate in this event.
This critical tradition positions the municipality of Cádiz as a key destination for lovers of this sport, which also helps to strengthen the economy. Another important aspect is that the tournament is projected to be held in other countries, and the participants can travel on holiday with family or friends on different occasions.
To promote responsible fishing, the “Catch and Release” category will also be awarded, with the commitment to preserve the species destined for sport fishing so that Los Cabos continues to be one of the best for the development of tournaments that, apart from promoting the destination, also leave an important economic benefit distributed in the different business segments.
