The Los Cabos International Film Festival will present the Sin Fronteras Award to Melissa Barrera and Manuel García Rulfo.

Mexican talent continues to conquer the world, and this year, the Los Cabos International Film Festival: Film Encounters will recognise two figures who embody this global mission. Melissa Barrera and Manuel García Rulfo, two outstanding young Mexican actors, will receive the Sin Fronteras Award. This award honours those who have taken Mexico’s talent beyond its territory and have contributed to global dialogue from the big screen.

The Sin Fronteras Award celebrates the figures of the Mexican film community whose international careers not only showcase the talent that exists in our country but also connect our film industry with the biggest productions in the world. This tribute underlines the Los Cabos International Film Festival’s commitment to fostering exchange between the international film industries, promoting Mexican cinema as a key player in this plural dialogue.

Melissa Barrera: A Voice of Latino Culture in Global Cinema

With great charisma and talent, Melissa Barrera has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most relevant young Mexican actresses. After her first steps in Mexico in the film Dos veces tú, and the series Club de Cuervos, Barrera leaped to the global stage with her portrayal of Vanessa in In the Heights, the film version of the hit Broadway musical. This role earned her a Best Actress nomination from the Hollywood Critics Association. Subsequently, her stellar performance in the reboot of the iconic Scream saga positioned her as one of the most prominent female figures in the representation of Latino culture in the global film industry. She is also notable for her work in Vida, Abigail and her most recent film, Your Monster. Melissa Barrera has proven herself to be a talented performer and an ambassador of our culture.

Manuel García Rulfo: A World-Class Actor

With a versatility that has taken him from Mexican cinema to Hollywood, Manuel García Rulfo is a true example of the global reach of national talent. Recognised for participating in major productions such as The Magnificent Seven, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and A Man Called Otto, alongside Tom Hanks, García Rulfo has also shone in the hit Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer. In Mexico, he recently starred in Pedro Páramo, in the production of the same name directed by Rodrigo Prieto. His ability to bring complex and memorable characters to life has established him as a leading figure in contemporary film narrative.

A Tribute to Mexican Talent that Crosses Borders.

The Sin Fronteras Award will be presented to Melissa Barrera and Manuel García Rulfo on Saturday, 7 December, at the Los Cabos International Film Festival. This recognition highlights the artistic achievements of both actors and celebrates their role as ambassadors of Mexican cinema in the international film industry. The Los Cabos International Film Festival thus reaffirms its commitment to promoting Mexican and Latin American film and talent globally, recognizing the creators and artists who forge connections between cultures through the seventh art.
