This morning, a press conference was held at Hossana Equinoterapia to present their new toy library, followed by a tour of the facility.
For the past two years, Evelyn Tejo, the Executive Director of Hossana Equine Therapy, Jorge Vieira, the Corporate and Social Responsibility Manager of RIU Hotel, and Marisa Comella Alvarez, the Executive Director of the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, have been working together to provide hippotherapy to children and young people. This collaboration aims to increase motivation, stimulate affectivity, improve attention and concentration, and enhance children’s tactile, visual, auditory, and olfactory sensitivity.
At the Hossana Equinoterapia Treatment Centre, established in 2012, we utilize horses as a therapeutic aid for physical and psychological conditions. The therapy requires the presence of three individuals: the child receiving treatment, the therapist, and a person who walks alongside the animal during the session. A heartwarming fact: After all these years, Príncipe, the horse they started with in hippotherapy, is still going strong at 17 years old. It’s a testament to the love and care they have provided him, and it’s truly a beautiful thing to witness.
Some physical benefits of equestrian therapy:
- Improves balance.
- Controls posture.
- Strengthens muscles.
- Improves neuromotor coordination.
- At a psychological level, it also favours:
- Increases self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Stimulates attention, concentration, communication and language skills.
- Develops self-control.
- Encourages respect for animals and nature
In addition, the Hossana Equine Therapy has a farm area where children and young people can work on retaining instructions and concentration by caring for roosters, hens, ducks, turkeys, and pigs.
Thanks to the support of RIU Hotels & Resorts and the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, children and young people can receive therapies at Hossana to improve their quality of life.
Congratulations! Keep creating safe and inspiring spaces for the children and youth of Los Cabos!
