In August, the Los Cabos International Film Festival will offer free screenings at majestic venues in La Paz, Loreto, Mulegé, Todos Santos and Los Cabos, called La Baja Inspira Itinerante.
La Baja Inspira has become a beloved part of the festival since its inception in 2021. The competitive section focuses on films inspired by, filmed or created in the Baja California peninsula. This year, Baja California Sur will host a tour of seven influential films – feature-length and short – that pay homage to the captivating region of Cálida Fornax. This itinerant circuit is an opportunity that film enthusiasts cannot afford to miss!
As part of the tour, outdoor performances and screenings will take place in museums, cultural centres, and universities. The program will start on August 18, 2023, with “Off the Road” screening, a film directed by José Permar from Mexico and the United States. The movie had its Latin American premiere during the 2020 Los Cabos International Film Festival edition.
Also part of the program:
- “Camino a Marte” by Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz (Mexico, 2017), whose world premiere took place at the festival’s sixth edition.
- “The Journeys of Harry Crosby” (United States, 2022) by Isaac Artenstein
- “The Giants” by Beatriz Sanchis (Mexico, United States, 2021)
The short film section includes a variety of titles to choose from:
- “Someday It Will Fall” by Mateo Vargas (Mexico, 2022)
- “Por Los Viejos Tiempos”, by Paula Natalia de Anda Vargas (Mexico, 2022), won the La Baja Inspira by CECC award in 2022.
- “Ir y volver” by José Permar (Mexico, Belgium, and Hungary, 2021), winner of the Shalala-FirePit Award the same year.
