MICHELIN 2024 Stars and Recommendations in Los Cabos

The renowned MICHELIN Guide began in 1900 when brothers André and Edouard Michelin founded the tire company that bears their name. However, it was not until 1923 that the heading “Recommended Hotels and Restaurants” appeared in the travel guide. It was the first time that independent restaurants were mentioned because, until then, only restaurants inside hotels were mentioned.

In 1926, the guide began to rate the quality of establishments with stars, although initially, only one star was awarded. Five years later, the hierarchy of one, two and three stars was established, and in 1936, the criteria applied for granting these awards were published.

Baja California Sur celebrates for the first time its presence in the world-renowned culinary guide MICHELIN, with the following restaurants:

Acre – San José del Cabo

Árbol – San José del Cabo

Benno –Todos Santos

Carbón Cabrón – San José del Cabo

Comal – Cabo San Lucas

DUM – Todos Santos

Lumbre – San José del Cabo

Manta – Cabo San Lucas

NAO – San José del Cabo

Ruba’s Bakery – San José del Cabo

All the restaurants listed above have been winners or nominated in Culinary Awards, congratulations for being part of the Recommendations in the first year of the Michelin Guide in Mexico.

Los Tres Gallos – Cabo San Lucas

Omakai – San José del Cabo

Paradero – Todos Santos

These are the restaurants recommended to appear in the 2024 guide. For this task, a team of mystery food critics visited each culinary site and rated them anonymously; some of these restaurants were winners of the local Culinary Awards.

In addition, Los Cabos earned its first MICHELIN star for the Cocina de Autor restaurant at Grand Velas Los Cabos, a tribute to chefs Sidney Schutte and Francisco Sixtos.

Special recognition was also given to Cocina de Campo by Agrícole in Todos Santos, Flora’s Field Kitchen in San José del Cabo, and the MICHELIN bibendum silhouette in San José del Cabo.

In addition, two MICHELIN green stars were awarded in recognition of sustainable cuisine. The Sudcalifornian winners are Flora’s Field Kitchen under Chef Guillermo Tellez Patrick and Acre Restaurant under Chef Arturo Rivero.

As if that were not enough, distinguished Chef Enrique Olvera won the Mentor Chef Award 2024 and earned his second MICHELIN star for his restaurant Pujol in Mexico City. We remind you that this great Chef is the founder of MANTA at The Cape a Thompson Hotel and now he is in charge of the cocktail bar, Sunker Bar, offering the most exclusive cocktails.

The MICHELIN Guide has become a world reference in gastronomy thanks to its constant commitment to its readers and rigorous selection process.
