There are many festivals and events built around food in Baja California Sur, where ingredients from sea and land abound. We have listed the many reasons to attend and experience those events and discover which suit your gourmet appetite.
Festival de la Almeja Chocolata
Smoked clams are a thousand-year old Cochimie Indian tradition. The story behind this recipe has given rise to an entire celebration where you can enjoy stuffed, au gratin, pickled and smoked clams in a magical place that gave rise to the development of the peninsula.
Enjoy a gastronomic party, amateur ceviche contest and shore fishing tournament for children. It is a festival for the entire family!
Festival del Vino Misional
The main event is a contest between the different producers of artisanal wines made in the region. Producers participate from San Miguel and San Jose de Comondu, San Isidro and San Javier. The judges are sommeliers from Los Cabos.
Anyone can attend, but only regional producers compete, which makes discovering new wines even more interesting.
You can try homemade dishes and regional sweets made by village residents, as well as take home a bottle of your favorite wine.
Queso, Pan y Vino
Simply spectacular. Year after year the assembled delicacies on the tables are the center of attention. There are more than 100 international cheeses and accompaniments such as tomato compote, jams, olives, focaccias and, of course, wines! Who would think that with just these three elements a regular evening would become a joyous occasion. It’s recommended you go with your significant other or friends.
Festival de Paella
A hilarious afternoon with a lot of flavor. It is undoubtedly the event where all the chefs participate for the pleasure of innovating rather competing in the preparation of this Spanish dish. For those who like paella, attending this event is a true feast!
Festival Sabores de Baja
Let’s rescue and enjoy the traditional cuisine of our state in a great family party.
This event stands out not only for the food, but for the entertainment for children! The spacious patio of the Doña Pame Restaurant has become the headquarters of a festival that unites the family, with puzzles of giant famous paintings to assemble, horse rides, fun bird shows and musical entertainment.
Feria de la Pitahaya en Miraflores
The emblematic fruit, the base of the Californian food, cannot go without its own festival.
In addition to the tasting of dishes and desserts based on pitahaya, what makes this three-day fair notable is the “pitahayas parade” featuring unusual creations representative of the typical costume of Baja California Sur. Whoever has the best costume made of homemade embroidery becomes the queen of the Festival!
Sabor a Cabo Beerfest
This is the ideal event to go with friends. Light or dark beer is best enjoyed when accompanied by anecdotes, good music and, of course, food. The energy of this festival is captivating and will make you dance until the end of the evening. You can try 50 different craft beers and create your own pairing with the various food stands. To your health!
Sabor a Cabo Rural
This flavorful event celebrates our rural roots and recipes. Traditional cooks sponsor chefs and teach them authentic methods for preparing recipes that have been handed down for generations. With Mexican games, live music, dancing and the natural environment, the Taste of the Rural Cape is the way to discover the country cuisine of South California.
