Kajillionaire, Inaugural movie on Los Cabos Film Festival

The Los Cabos International Film Festival is one of those events that undoubtedly captures producers, filmmakers, actors and the entire community of Los Cabos. First of all, because of the extraordinary location: between beaches, a relaxed atmosphere that allows for relationships between people from the industry and hotels that dazzle with luxury and service. But also, a program of films that make us reflect, identify with characters, stories and bring us closer to the world of international cinema.
In this edition the space changes but not the essence!

Miranda July is one of the most important American filmmakers on the independent scene today.

For Miranda it all started as a dream, three figures were drawn in her mind:

two women with long hair and a man. Unable to go back to sleep, the actress also took her cell phone and began to write in the dark the beginning of what would be her first feature film in almost a decade: Kajillionaire, the acclaimed satire starring Evan Rachel Wood and Gina Rodriguez that will open the ninth edition of the Los Cabos International Film Festival.

Echoing the eccentric characters she outlined in Me and You And Everyone We Know (2005) and The Future (2011), Miranda July turns to the talented Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) to tell the story of “Old Dolio,” a young from Los Angeles whose social circle is limited by their parents (Richard Jenkins and Debra Winger), a pair of petty con artists who escape paying the rent for their house under a soap factory and live in fear of the next great earthquake that will destroy their city.

However, it will not be an earthquake that puts the shy girl’s family ties at risk, but the arrival of Melanie (Gina Rodríguez), a charming stranger who not only questions her closeness with her parents, but also invites her to reimagine your life and make your first big emotional connection.

Produced by Plan B, Brad Pitt’s company responsible for hits like Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave, Miranda July’s third film has been received with much enthusiasm among audiences and critics since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

This exciting film opens the digital edition of the Los Cabos International Film Festival, being a Latin American premiere, thanks to the support of Universal Picture.
